De Universiteit Utrecht is bezig met een herziening van de masterprogramma’s om de masters nog aantrekkelijker, herkenbaarder, uitdagender en beter studeerbaar te maken. Programma’s krijgen een internationaler profiel, zijn ingebed in sterk onderzoek, richten zich beter op loopbaanoriëntatie en worden selectief. Lees hier het volledige kader voor het vernieuwde aanbod van onze faculteit. De veranderingen gaan in per 1 september 2016. De informatie over de vernieuwde masters zal compleet zijn in mei 2015.
 
In deze extra editie van de nieuwsbrief lees je welke certificeringsvoorstellen we naar het college van bestuur sturen

Certificeringsvoorstellen
Het faculteitsbestuur zal op 5 januari certificeringsvoorstellen van onderstaande masterprogramma’s indienen bij het college van bestuur. We vertrouwen erop een sterk en goed onderbouwd palet aan programma’s in te dienen, dat de adviescommissie voor de certificering en uiteindelijk het college van bestuur zal overtuigen. We verwachten na het besluit van het college alle informatie over het nieuwe masteraanbod uiterlijk in mei 2015 definitief naar buiten te kunnen brengen.

Certificeringsvoorstellen in een volgende ronde

Voor de een- en tweejarige masters op het gebied van muziekwetenschappen/musicology en de tweejarige master op het gebied van kunstgeschiedenis onderzoeken we op dit moment de samenwerkingsmogelijkheden met de UvA. Zodra de mogelijkheden zijn uitgewerkt, zullen we hiervoor ook certificeringsvoorstellen indienen bij het college van bestuur. In overleg met het college van bestuur zal daarvoor een latere indieningstermijn worden gehanteerd, in het vroege voorjaar van 2015.
 
De educatieve masters zullen in mei worden ingediend door de Graduate School of Teaching.
 

Programma’s die niet worden ingediend voor certificering
Het facultaire kader voor de masterherziening leidt ertoe dat voor een aantal bestaande programma’s geen certificeringsvoorstellen zal worden ingediend. Voor deze programma’s kunnen studenten zich in 2015-2016 voor het laatst inschrijven. Het gaat om de eenjarige master American Studies, de eenjarige master Middeleeuwen en Renaissance studies, de eenjarige master Wijsbegeerte (voltijd en deeltijd) en de deeltijdmaster Nederlandse taal– en cultuur. We maken deze beslissing half december bekend via de masterkiezerswebsite en de studentenwebsite, zodat studenten en studiekiezers tijdig geïnformeerd zijn.
 
Studenten die in 2015/2016 (of eerder) starten met een van deze masterprogramma’s, hebben tot 31 augustus 2018 de tijd om het masterprogramma af te ronden.
 
Studenten die in 2016 of later willen beginnen met een studie op of dichtbij het gebied van de af te bouwen programma’s, hebben bij de Universiteit Utrecht de keuze uit eenjarige masters op het gebied van International Relations in Historical Perspective, Modern Europe: History, Culture and Globalisation, Applied Ethics, Literature Today of tweejarige masters op het gebied van Modern History, Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Philosophy en Nederlandse literatuur en cultuur. Daarnaast zoeken we contact met masteropleidingen American Studies van andere Nederlandse universiteiten om een alternatief aan te bieden aan o.a. studenten van de Bachelor TCS of LAS met hoofdrichting Amerikanistiek.
 
Minors en hoofdrichtingen TCS/LAS
Het sluiten van het masterprogramma Amerikanistiek heeft tot gevolg dat de minor Amerikanistiek met ingang van 2015-2016 wordt vervangen door de minor Atlantic Europe. De hoofdrichting Amerikanistiek wordt in academisch jaar 2015-2016 voor het laatst aangeboden, voor studenten LAS/TCS met hoofdrichting Amerikanistiek zijn in 2015-2016 nog voldoende cursussen beschikbaar. Voor hen is het schrijven van een bachelor-eindwerkstuk in 2016-2017 ook nog mogelijk.
 
Het sluiten van de andere masterprogramma’s heeft geen gevolgen voor de overige minors/hoofdrichtingen. 
 

Studenten die in 2015-2016 willen starten met een master
Voor studenten die in 2015-2016 starten met een master, of al bezig zijn met een master, verandert er niets. Studenten kunnen starten met de masters die zijn beschreven op www.uu.nl/masters. Voor de mastersprogramma’s die in 2015-2016 voor het laatst starten, geldt dat studenten tot 1 augustus 2018 de tijd hebben deze master af te ronden.
 

 

Vragen of meer informatie
Studenten kunnen op verschillende manieren vragen stellen:
 
  • Neem contact op met je studieadviseur;
  • Kom op 4 februari naar de masteravond;
  • Lees de onderwijsnieuwsbrief voor studenten (aanmelden bij studentassessor.gw@uu.nl);
  • Kom in mei naar de voorlichtingsbijeenkomst voor eerste en tweede jaars BA-studenten. Deze bijeenkomst wordt per departement/school georganiseerd door studieadviseurs, in samenwerking met mastercoördinatoren en het faculteitsbestuur, om studenten te begeleiden bij pakket- en minorkeuze en oriëntatie op de masters;
  • Kom in oktober 2015 naar de masteravond;
  • Kijk op www.uu.nl/masters of op je opleidingswebsite voor de programma’s die starten in 2015-2016. De programma’s die starten op in 2016-2017 staan in de zomer van 2015 online.
 
Medewerkers zijn van harte welkom op een informatiebijeenkomst op 20 januari van 9.00-10.30 uur in de Sweelinckzaal op Drift 21.

Utrecht University is busy reforming the Master’s programmes to make them even more appealing, recognisable, and challenging and to improve studiability. The programmes will receive a greater international profile, will be firmly entrenched in strong research, have an increasing focus on career orientation and become selective. Read the complete framework for our faculty’s renewed range here (in Dutch only). The changes will enter into force as per September 1st, 2016. All information about the renewed Master’s programmes will be ready in May 2015.

Certification proposals
The Faculty Board will submit certification proposals for the Master’s programmes, listed below, to the Executive Board on January 5th. We are confident of submitting a strong and well-substantiated palette of programmes, which will convince the Advisory Committee for certification and finally the Executive Board. We expect to be able to announce all the information about the new range of Master’s after the Board’s decision, no later than May 2015.

Certification proposals for the following round

We are presently looking into a possible collaboration with the UvA for the one- and two-year Master’s programmes in the fields of muziekwetenschappen/musicology and the two-year Master’s programmes in kunstgeschiedenis/art history. We will also be submitting a certification proposal to the Executive Board as soon as we have detailed the options. We have agreed an extended deadline for submission in consultation with the Executive Board, namely early spring of 2015.
 
The Graduate School of Teaching will submit the Master of Education programmes in May.
 

Programmes not being submitted for certification
The faculty framework for the revision of the Master’s programmes means that certification proposals will not be submitted for a number of existing programmes. Students will be able to register for these programmes for the last time in 2015-2016. This concerns the one-year Master’s in American Studies, the one-year Master’s in Middeleeuwen en Renaissance studies, the one-year Master’s in Wijsbegeerte (full- and part-time) and the part-time Master’s in Nederlandse taal– en cultuur. We will be announcing this decision in mid-December through the Master’s prospectus website and the student website, so that students and prospective students will be informed in time.
 
Students starting one of these programmes in 2015/2016 (or before) will have until August 31st, 2018 to complete the Master’s programme.
 
Students wanting to start a course in 2016 or later, in or related to the programmes we are phasing out, have the choice of one-year Master’s degrees at the University of Utrecht in the fields of International Relations in Historical Perspective, Modern Europe: History, Culture and Globalisation, Applied Ethics, Literature Today or two-year Master’s degrees in the fields of Modern History, Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Philosophy and Nederlandse literatuur en cultuur. Additionally, we are contacting American Studies Master’s courses at other Dutch universities for offering an alternative to students, including those from the Bachelor TCS or LAS with the major Amerikanistiek.
 
Minors and majors TCS/LAS
The closure of the Master American Studies means that the minor Amerikanistiek in 2015-2016 will replaced by the minor Atlantic Europe.
The hoofdrichting Amerikanistiek will be offered for the last time in the academic year 2015-2016, for students TCS/LAS with hoofdrichting Amerikanistiek will be sufficient courses available in 2015-2016. For them, it will still be possible to write the Bachelor thesis in 2016-2017. This means that the current first-year students can still choose and complete this hoofdrichting.
 
The closure of the other Master’s programmes has no consequences for the other minors/hoofdrichtingen.
 

Students wanting to start a Master’s programme in 2015-2016
Nothing will change for students starting a Master’s programme in 2015-2016, or who have already started their Master’s programme. Students can start with the Master’s programmes listed on www.uu.nl/masters. Students will have until August 1st, 2018 to complete Master’s programmes that are commencing for the final time in 2015-2016.

  • Contact your Study Advisor;
  • Come to the Master’s evening on February 4th;
  • Read the education newsletter for students (register at studentassessor.gw@uu.nl);
  • Come to the information meeting for first- and second-year BA students in May. This meeting, aimed at supporting students with their choices of packages and minors and to orientate to the Master’s programme, will be organised by the Study Advisors per department/school and in partnership with the Master’s coordinators and the Faculty Board;
  • Come to the Master’s evening in October 2015;
  • Go to www.uu.nl/masters or to your course website for the programmes starting in 2015-2016. The programmes starting in 2016-2017 will be online in the summer of 2015.
 
Staff are very welcome at the information meeting on January 20th from 9.00-10.30 am in the Sweelinckzaal at Drift 21. If you wish to attend, please register before January 19th with Githa Tobben  (g.tobben-dejonge@uu.nl).
