Dear Reader
● ● ●
|
The summer holiday is now behind us and the
majority of you have already had to study for an exam or
deliver a draft paper; the 2015-2016 academic year has
begun. My name is Luc Nibbeling, I’m 21 years of age,
fourth-year student of Communication and Information
Sciences (CIW) and named as student assessor for the
Humanities Faculty Board this coming year. Last year, I was
president of Contact, the student association affiliated
with the CIW programme. This year, I will be working on
behalf of all Humanities students at Utrecht University. |
|
As student assessor, I am
the student member of the Faculty Board giving advice about
student and educational issues within this board. In order
to provide well-founded advice, I maintain contact with the
boards of student associations, the student representatives
of the Faculty Council, the education committees and with
you, as Humanities students, in general. Moreover, partly by
way of the newsletter, I ensure students receive the
relevant information from the faculty. In this way, I act as
a bridge between (policy) staff and the students within the
faculty. |
|
I will be sending a
newsletter approximately every six weeks, which will include
relevant information related to education, educational
facilities, developments and activities within the Faculty
of Humanities. Only this first edition will be sent to all
Humanities students. It includes information about the
latest developments within the Master’s programme revision,
the Master’s evening (7 October), the Faculty Council, the
new Career Officer and other fun and interesting news. |
|
If you would like to
continue receiving this newsletter, please send an e-mail to
studentassessor.gw@uu.nl. |
|
I wish you every success
this coming academic year and hope to see you around! |
|
|
Kind
regards,
Luc Nibbeling

Career
Services and the new Career Officer
|
On the UU student website, you can now find
information about the Career Services offered by the university
under your programme heading (www.students.uu.nl).

|
You will be given the opportunity to complete
training courses, you can use the Coach Network to contact UU
graduates, find tips for your CV and job applications and
perform a ‘career check’ to see where you are in the process of
looking for a suitable internship, job or career direction. |
|
Since 1 September, Sjoer Bergervoet has been the
faculty Career Officer for Humanities. She will work with
lecturers, student associations, alumni and the professional
field to further develop the Career Services and translate it
into concrete initiatives and activities such as internships,
work assignments, presentations, training courses and workshops.
You can also contact her with individual questions about your

career orientation and are all selective. |

Introduction of the Faculty Council
|
We are the new student representatives of the
Faculty Council! The council consists of 12 students and 12
members of staff who are committed to serving the interests of
everyone belonging to the faculty. We work in cycles, discussing
the plans and activities of the Faculty Board. |
|
As such, we have voting rights on the main
points in the budget and on the Education and Exam Regulations
(OER), which include the precise rights and obligations of a
student. This year for example, we will be presented with the
Education and Exam Regulations of the revised Master’s
programmes.
|
|
In this newsletter, we would like to give you an
update on what we are doing. You can follow us on our
Facebook page and we can be contacted at

Education
committees
|
There is also student representation at
educational levels, namely in the form of an Education Committee
(OC). The Education Committee consists of students and lecturers.
Each term, they look at all course evaluations to see what
improvements can be made for the following year. Based on that,
they make recommendations enabling the courses to improve each
year. |
|
Should you encounter any issues when following a
course, do not hesitate to e-mail the OC. They can help! You can
find the names and addresses for each programme on the UU
student website
students.uu.nl/en.
